Once your payment is received, you will be added as a member to the course site. You will receive an email with login instructions and access to the files from a cloud server. All materials will be available to being coursework on August 1, 2016.
Class Details
All chapters have a recorded online lecture. The student downloads & prints the video notes. The student takes notes while watching the video, and can go back to review at any time.
A suggested schedule will be made available as well as additional worksheets with answers to the Parent-Teacher via a cloud-based service. The beauty of this course is the Parent-Teacher sets the pace for the course based on student needs. You have access to the course for 365 days. You are in control of your student’s schedule.
On test day, the student open the link to the test using a secure key code provided to the Parent-Teacher who administers the test. A grade for the test is available once the student submits the test.
Suggested Textbook
The course was originally designed using Apologia Chemistry, 2nd Edition. Contact me for more information about other chemistry textbooks available.
Course Description
LabDays
Session 1: Saturday, September 10, 2016, 1:00 PM - 6:00 PM AND Sunday, September 11, 2016 1:30 - 4:30 PM
Session 2: Saturday, April 1, 2017, 1:00 PM - 6:00 PM AND Sunday, April 3, 2017 1:30 - 4:30 PM
Location: Gymstars Gymnastics in Collierville, Tennessee
Safety
1. Goggles must be worn by every student. The goggles will fit over eyeglasses. They must be worn at all times even when the lab doesn’t use caustic chemicals. It’s a good habit.
2. Closed toed shoes must be worn. Do NOT wear shorts even in August, April and May. Remember to follow the dress code of the Collierville Connection.
3. Safety equipment will be on hand: fire extinguisher and eye wash station.
4. Purchase a pair of rubber gloves which fit your hand size for chemical handling.
5. Reading the lab thoroughly before class will also prevent accidents. Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) will be on hand for safety precautions of all chemicals.
6. Do not carry lighters or other flammable articles with you to the lab.
7. A safety contract will be signed by the parent and student. Bring the lab safety contract signed by parent and student to the first class.
Supplies Needed at Home & LabDays
TI-84 Scientific calculator.
3-ring binder and paper
Notebook Dividers for: Notes, Homework, Tests, and Labs, and Handouts
Rubber gloves (kitchen type)
Laminate a copy of the textbook's Periodic Table for your notebook.
Lab Supplies
The lab team is responsible to keep the glassware clean and intact. Extra supplies are available in case of breakage; however, the student is responsible for the replacement cost.
Students will complete chemistry lab exercises with Vernier probeware including thermometer, pH meter, gas pressure sensore, conductivity meter, and others. Probeware increases student understanding of science concepts, encourages inquiry learning the laboratory, and frees class time for student engagement in higher order thinking skills, such as analysis, synthesis, and evaluation. See tools page.
As always, I am here for you and your student. Please let me know how I can further assist to make this a positive experience.

Course Description
- Chemistry is a laboratory-intensive course concerned with the fundamental nature of matter, including classification of matter, chemical nomenclature, chemical equations, stoichiometry, quantum mechanics, periodicity, molecular structure and bonding, gas laws, aqueous solutions including colligative properties, kinetics, thermodynamics, equilibrium, and acid-base titrations.
- This course content places a large emphasis on experimental design and execution to further facilitate the master of the scientific method. This course meets National and Tennessee Science chemistry course standards including abilities necessary to do scientific inquiry.
- Scientific technology is used in the course (see imbedded video for more information.)
- Training and resources for writing technically correct lab reports, to prepare the student for college lab courses in various sciences. Students will be instructed in the process of writing, revising, and producing a formal lab report, in general and specifically for that field of science. For each course, this training process includes written evaluation guidelines, in-class training, and an evaluated draft.
- Cost: $675.00 for a two day a week course for 35 weeks.
